Greenhouse Assays with Lactuca sativa for Testing Sewage Sludge-Based Soil Amendments

Sustainable agriculture practices within the guidelines of nutrient recycling and circular economy must be increasingly promoted. This work aims to evaluate performance dried sewage sludge (DSS), green liquor dregs mixed with (DSSA), raw sludge, commercial organic fertilizer control, using a short-term agronomic assessment lettuce crop (Lactuca sativa) in greenhouse conditions. Different application rates based on nitrogen content were tested for each soil amendment: 0, 85, 170, 225 kg N/ha (treatments T0, T1, T2, T3, respectively). DSS DSSA resulted fresh productivities 1.3 3.2 times higher T3 than respectively. The ideal N leaves was reached all materials treatments, highest values obtained (2.88–3.33% from T1 T3). Lettuce produced soils amended showed also levels Ca. Overall, sludge-based products similar fertilizer, without impairing nutritional balance soil.
